What is Building Green?

Have you heard about Green Building? Like most people, it may be an unknown to you. Sure you’ve heard all the hubbub about Global Warming lately, but do you know about Green Building? The built environment has a profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health, and productivity. Whether the building industry contributes to Global Warming or not, why not build green anyway? Maybe you’re not sure where to start. The U.S. Green Building Council offers plenty of information especially on LEED building. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation for high performance green buildings. It was designed to promote a whole building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. The LEED Rating System provides the building industry with consistent, credible standards for what constitutes a green building.

ROEL Construction is committed to practicing sustainable building. The company has participated in the USGBC Annual Conference, and has trained many of our project engineers, project managers, and senior project managers, 24 of whom are LEED Accredited Professionals. We contribute to local USGBC Committees and are involved in continuing education on sustainable building perspectives. We actively participate in assisting the Owner’s LEED Consultant(s) and Commissioning Agent (Cx), the Architect, and the MEP Engineers in determining feasibility for individual LEED point criteria, and assist in providing the documentation that is crucial to completing the LEED certification process with USGBC. Providing pre-construction services including LEED Charrette participation is also integral to ROEL’s (and our client’s) success in green building practices. In addition to recycling for project sites, ROEL has built numerous sustainable projects which have reached various levels of LEED certification.
