ROEL® PROGRESSES ON 16 TH & MARKET WORKFORCE/AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT San Diego , CA … ROEL Construction is progressing on construction of 16 th & Market Workforce/Affordable Housing Development. This project received local notoriety last August when construction crews were excavating the land at 16th and Market streets and unearthed a giant, prehistoric mammoth tusk . Discovery of the 8-foot long tusk did not cause significant delays in construction progress.
Late September, the structural concrete team at ROEL poured approximately 5,000 yards of concrete for the matt foundation. Beginning at 5:00 A.M., the pour consisted of five boom pumps pouring approximately 700 cubic yards of concrete an hour to cover 1.3 million pounds of rebar and completing around 3:00 P.M. Upon completion, this 217,115-square-foot mixed-use Affordable/Workforce Housing project will consist of a 12-story high-rise building comprised of 136 apartment units, first floor retail space and two levels of subterranean parking. Construction is scheduled to complete in late January 2009.
Mathew Packard is the representatives for Father Joe's Villages , the developer. Joseph Wong Bert Shert, Chris Fassler, and Norm Dewitt of Joseph Wong Design Associates are the architects and Al deBerardinis and Dennis Cruzan of Cruzan Monroe are the construction managers. Burkett & Wong Engineers, McParlane & Associates, Inc., Garbini & Garbini, Geocon Inc., Butsko Utility Design Inc., Shirmer Engineering, Flores Lund Consultants, HKA Elevator Consulting Inc., Compliance Consulting Associates, and MPE Consulting Inc. also make up the design team. ROEL representatives include Brent Hughes as group manager, Rob Cruden as project manager, John Tontz as assistant project manager, Brendan Inglis as project engineer, Drew Peterson, Jim Groenendal, Ric Sorenson, and John Lemon as superintendents, Carol Maniglia as senior project coordinator, and Andrea Newell as administrative assistant.
